Road Cycling Tour of Mythical Peloponnese Greece
 

We invite you to discover the magic and myths of the Peloponnese. Enjoy second to none local “filoxenia” and hospitality.

 

The route takes you deep into the Peloponnese taking in the rich culture and history of the area. The cycling will be challenging but you will be rewarded with amazing views, varied terrain and great food as well as an insight to the culture and history. It really is not to be missed. It is not every day you get the chance to cycle a myth!!

ITINERARY:

Day 1

NO CYCLING .You will be picked up in Athens in the morning and transferred to the starting point in Loutraki. Meet the GCH team and then enjoy a spa in therapeutic thermal waters and a 20 minute body massage to get you fully relaxed ready for the tour ahead. We will have our pre – tour briefing, as well as the opportunity to set up and check the bikes and equipment before dinner.

Day 2 Loutraki –– Mykines – Nafplio

77 km / 712 m

A Fairly easy ride to start your tour, giving you a chance to visit the rich archaeological site in the Mykines where your Tour guide will show you around. We then continue cycling towards Nafplio, the capital of the First Hellenic Republic, where we will spend the night. Enjoy dinner and an evening walking around Nafplio.

Day 3 Nafplio – Ag Ioannis

51.6km / 992 m

As you start to go into the mountains the riding gets a little bit tougher, although the scenery makes it worthwhile. Today your destination is the village of Ag.Ioannis where you will sample local life and Greek “filoxenia” staying in a traditional stone houses.

Day 4- Ag.Ioannis – Leonidio- Option to panagias Elonas monestary

65km / 831m ( option extra 30km/ 612 m)

Today we head south towards the picturesque village of Leonidio for a medium level ride to the town of Leonidio. From Leonidio we continue on for a visit to the unique monastery of Panagias Elonas. This will be a climb of around 15 km with a total elevation of 600m- but well worth the visit! Alternatively you can end your ride in Leonidio

Day 5 -

Leonidio - Kyparissi

51.5km / 1279m

Make sure you eat a good breakfast again today as you have around 1000m of climbing to do. A 6 mile climb up to an elevation of 1800ft before descending then following the coast to the beautiful coastal village of Kyparissi. Weather permitting why not finish the ride with a dip in the sea!!

Day 6- kyparissi  – monemvasia

49 km / 11198m

Today you reach the furthest point south of your tour at the unique Byzantine castle of Monemvasia. Have a relaxing evening with a well-deserved drink before dinner.

Day 7 Monemvasia - Gythio

65km / 667m

A flatter ride today as you head west and arrive at the beautiful fishing town of Gythio. We will stop on the way at Valtaki beach and a chance to view the shipwreck “Dimitris” and also enjoy a dip in the sea weather permitting.

Day – 8 Gythio – Stoupa

82.6 km/ 1409m

Some hills again today because I know how much you will have missed them yesterday! An early start as we will get the chance to visit the spectacular underground river caves at Diros with a 40 minute guided tour before continuing your ride towards Stoupa, one of the oldest settlements in the Peloponnese.

Day 9 Stoupa – pilos

 110km / 1313m

Today we ride west towards the pretty coastal town of Pilos. On the way we will pass through Kalamata, capital city of the Peloponnese region. We will also get a chance to visit and swim in the icy pools of Polilimnio waterfalls

DAY 10

Today you will be transferred by mini bus back to Athens taking with you a lifetime of memories and experiences.

Extra Info
 

  • Exact itinerary and activities may be subject to change depending on availability

  • Distances and elevation are Approx. and may vary slightly depending on exact location of destination accommodation and starting points

  • Vehicle support will be a VW T5 van with 2 passenger seats available for emergencies or support on the rides.

  • Difficulty: The tour is a medium to high challenging tour designed for people who are experienced cyclists comfortable with cycling 6 hours a day with some challenging  hills

  • Flight info: You Will have to fly to Athens international airport and aim to arrive at least one day prior to the tour start and at least one day after.

  • Hotels in Athens before and after the tour are not included
